My Background

I obtained my first Basset Hound whilst still at school in 1970. He was a large tricolour Hound and was bred by Colin and Karen Brown , who only bred one litter and now are well known judges of Clydesdales horses.

This was the beginning of my love affair with the Breed that has extended over 32 years. My first Basset was a son of Chevalier Dorcas and his mother a daughter of Matt ( Aus Ch Santana Mandeville My Count (IMPU.S.A.) He did not like to be shown and he was retired from the ring at just 10 months of age. I later obtained Sagaces Paladin from Sue & Barry Millar., whilst he was not the best Basset he was certainly a great Character and was much missed when he passed away at the age of 14 years. During this time I also acquired Sagaces Nellie Bligh who was mated to Hushanda Columbine ( a grand son of Santana Mandeville) and they produced one of the great loves of my life Ch Jimetta Gladstone born 1985 and passed away in 1999. This litter was bred in partnership with Gina Tissington. I was already showing her stock and acquired Jimetta Jentle, Jimetta Penny Lane who was a rescue bitch, Ch Hushanda Qita Happityme (another rescue bitch who lived out her life with me until the age of 17 years)  The Gladstone litter  was the first of many litters and the partnership was not to last although I did show her Ch Jimetta Dressed to Kill from an uncontrollable baby puppy to Best in Show at the Spring Fair in 1999.

In 1993 I  acquired from Chris Lawrence, who in fact bred a litter for Jess Jackson  of Western Australia (Abattu prefix) using a dog that was obtained by her (Conmurra JBs Texs Ranga) when the Scobles gave up the breed. Murphy  is a lovely but very small Blanket red & white Bitch .

Abattu Murphys Brown has the most amazing temperament., which is passed most solidly down the generations  is from an outcross mating and was mated to another outcross. She was mated to Gina Tissingtons GR CH Jimetta Monte Carlo and Produced Ch Murstone Hushman and Ch Murstone ImaBlonde and Murstone ImaPeach from a litter of 4. Peach has been rarely shown due to her poor eating habits but was show 6 times for 5 challenges and hopes to make her title very soon. Hush and Peaches have an adorable family now aged 4 months old. See the puppy photos for their details. Murphys lines can be traced back to the Santana Mandeville lines and like their parents have amazing temperament. .

My puppies are bred for soundness and substance and can work all day.

We owe a huge debt to Gina Tissington for allowing us to use her exquisite hound Grand Champion Jimetta Monte Carlo at stud on Murphy. He is an outstanding dog and his like has not yet been repeated.

My thanks are extended to Alan and Judy Poulton of the Laurieton Dachshund prefix who were former Basset Hound Breeders and whose knowledge of the breed is unsurpassed, for all their input and advice on rearing.
